Annual vs Monthly Email Pricing: Who Rewards Prepaying, and Who Won't Show Both Rates

TL;DR: Every vendor that publishes both cycles rewards prepaying, but the reward runs from 10% to 18% — MailerLite prints 10% off, Mailchimp and Constant Contact print 15%, Kit's own savings line works out near 17%, and GetResponse advertises 18% — a spread worth $173 a year at 1,000 subscribers between the cheapest and the dearest prepaid bill. Two vendors break the pattern from opposite ends: Klaviyo publishes no annual rate at all (its 10,000-profile year bills $1,800 with nothing to shave it), and ActiveCampaign won't print a monthly rate anywhere on its pricing page. And three cards bend the numbers: Kit's "$33/mo" is the prepaid year divided by twelve, not the monthly price.

Both cycles, side by side, from each vendor's own page

Every figure below is printed by the vendor itself — the monthly rate and the annual rate, at the same plan and list size. Where the discount percentage is not printed, we show it as arithmetic on the two official figures and label it as such. Where a cycle isn't published, we say so rather than estimate it.

Sources, per row: MailerLite's published ten-band ladder with both cycles on its own page; GetResponse's checkout links at the 1,000 rung; Mailchimp's US pricing cards — the annual figures are what its cards print, and its own footnote routes annual plans below 10,000 contacts through its sales team, so read those as printed card rates rather than a self-serve toggle; Constant Contact's US pricing page with its annual banner; AWeber's printed rate table; Brevo's plan card and its published prepaid total; Kit's plan card and its printed savings line; ActiveCampaign's four-figure price list; Klaviyo's pricing engine, which stops at monthly.

What the 0%–18% spread is worth in dollars

Pick any list size and the discount spread becomes a real bill difference. At 1,000 subscribers, the prepaid year costs $186.96 on GetResponse (18% off $228), $205.20 on MailerLite (10% off $228), and $360 on Klaviyo — because Klaviyo bills $30 a month and offers no annual rate at all. That is $173 a year between the cheapest and the dearest prepaid bill for a list of the same size, before a single feature differs.

The spread also reshuffles sticker rankings. At 5,000 subscribers, MailerLite Comfort bills $5 a month less than GetResponse Starter ($49 against $54) — yet GetResponse's 18% prepay against MailerLite's 10% lands the two annual bills $2.16 apart. On monthly billing the choice looks like a $60-a-year difference; on annual billing it is a rounding error, and the decision should be made on features. The same logic runs in reverse: a vendor with a deep prepay discount can look cheap on the annual card and lose on month-to-month.

The two vendors that won't show you both rates

Klaviyo publishes monthly rates only. Its Email plan steps $20 at 500 active profiles to $150 at 10,000, and no annual rate is printed at any size. For buyers who would prepay anyway, that is a real cost: the same 10,000-profile list bills $1,800 a year on Klaviyo against $961.20 on MailerLite's yearly rate — the pairing is priced size by size in our Klaviyo pricing deep-dive. For buyers who want month-to-month flexibility, Klaviyo's structure costs nothing extra — there is no prepay to forgo.

ActiveCampaign prints annual-billed figures only. The public price list is four numbers — $15, $49, $79, $145 a month at the 1,000-contact band — all billed yearly, with no monthly rate anywhere on the page. Monthly checkout exists and runs higher, but the figure only appears inside the purchase flow. A buyer comparing "Starter $15" against another vendor's monthly card is comparing an annual commitment to a month-to-month one, which is exactly the mismatch this page exists to catch — our ActiveCampaign pricing page documents the whole published list.

How we keep these numbers honest

Every price on this page comes from the vendor's own pricing page or checkout flow, verified on the dates listed at the top and dated per row. When a vendor prints both cycles, we print both; when the discount percentage isn't printed, we show it as labeled arithmetic on two official figures; when a cycle isn't published, the cell says so instead of carrying an estimate. Our methodology page explains the full process, and the list-size cost calculator prices both cycles for any subscriber count from 500 to 30,000, leaving unpublished bands blank. For the deepest single-vendor reads behind this page, see our AWeber rate-table breakdown — 28 rows with both cycles printed — and our Brevo pricing guide.

Frequently asked questions

How much do you save by paying for email marketing annually?

Between 10% and 18% among vendors that publish both rates: MailerLite prints 10%, Brevo's prepaid year works out about 10% below its monthly card, Mailchimp and Constant Contact each print a 15% twelve-month offer, AWeber's Lite annual bill equals ten monthly payments, Kit's savings line works out near 17%, and GetResponse advertises 18%. Klaviyo publishes no annual rate, so there is nothing to save there by prepaying.

Does Klaviyo offer annual billing?

No annual rate is published at any list size. The Email plan bills monthly — $20 at 500 active profiles, $60 at 2,500, $150 at 10,000 — so a 10,000-profile year bills $1,800 by arithmetic, against $961.20 for the same list on MailerLite's yearly rate.

Why does Kit's pricing card say $33 a month?

It's the prepaid year divided by twelve: $390 over twelve months is $32.50, displayed as $33. The monthly-billing rate is $39 — the official "Save $78 per year" line implies it exactly ($39 × 12 − $390 = $78). Pro works the same way: $790 billed yearly, printed as $66, against a $79 monthly rate.

Is GetResponse's "from $13.30/mo" the annual price?

No — it is a 30% first-term promotional rate on the $19 monthly bill. The twelve-month prepay is a separate structural 18% discount: $186.96 for a year at 1,000 subscribers against $228 paid monthly. The two discounts don't stack and expire on different calendars.

Which email marketing tools don't publish a monthly rate?

ActiveCampaign's pricing page prints annual-billed figures only — Starter $15, Plus $49, Pro $79, Enterprise $145 at the 1,000-contact band — with monthly billing visible only at checkout. Constant Contact leads with annual rates and prints monthly starting figures for Lite ($12) and Standard ($35) at the bottom of its page. Klaviyo sits at the opposite extreme: monthly rates only, no annual option at all.
