Both vendors lead with a free plan, and both free plans end at the same number — 250. MailerLite's free tier covers 250 subscribers sending up to 2,500 emails a month on two seats; Klaviyo's covers 250 active profiles sending up to 500 emails a month, with a $5 SMS credit and support for the first 60 days. Below the ceiling, the difference is not the account count but the sending allowance — five times more email on MailerLite's free plan — and the trimmings.
The first paid step is where the symmetry almost holds. MailerLite's first band above the free plan covers 251 to 1,000 subscribers at $19 a month ($17.10 on the yearly plan); Klaviyo's first rung covers 251 to 500 active profiles at $20 a month, twelve monthly payments because no annual rate exists. A 300-person list pays $205.20 a year on MailerLite's yearly rate against $240 on Klaviyo — $34.80 apart, the closest the two bills ever get. From there every verified size diverges:
| Accounts | MailerLite Comfort, monthly | MailerLite, yearly plan | Klaviyo Email, monthly | Klaviyo, a year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 500 | $12 | $10.80/mo — $129.60 | $20 | $240 (12 × $20) |
| 2,500 | $33 | $29.70/mo — $356.40 | $60 | $720 (12 × $60) |
| 10,000 | $89 | $80.10/mo — $961.20 | $150 | $1,800 (12 × $150) |
| 10,001 | Next published band: up to 15,000 at $129 (+$480/yr) | $116.10/mo at 15,000 | Next rung: 10,500 at $175 (+$300/yr) | $2,100 at 10,500 profiles |
USD. MailerLite figures are its published Comfort bands, read from its pricing page on September 21, 2026, with nightly re-checks through October 3, 2026 finding no changes; the yearly column is MailerLite's own published rate, about 10% under twelve monthly payments. Klaviyo figures are from the 49-rung ladder read from its own pricing engine on September 24, 2026 (banner and add-ons re-checked October 1, 2026); Klaviyo publishes no annual rate at any size, so its yearly column is twelve monthly payments — arithmetic, not a vendor quote.
Neither ladder rises smoothly, and each one punishes a different stage of growth.
At 10,000 accounts the yearly bills are $961.20 on MailerLite (its published yearly rate, $80.10 a month) against $1,800 on Klaviyo (twelve monthly payments of $150, because Klaviyo publishes no annual rate at any size) — $838.80 apart. That is the largest annual-billing gap between any two vendors we price at a size both verify.
The two annual structures behave differently beyond the number. MailerLite's yearly plan takes about 10% off every band but locks the account for the term: a downgrade requested mid-term takes effect the following cycle, so the saving is also a commitment. Klaviyo's non-existent annual rate is the opposite trade — no commitment, no discount, and a first-month promo that barely registers: $19 off the first month, on the 500-profile plan only, with no published end date. A buyer comparing year-one cash outlay at 500 accounts sees $129.60 against $221 (Klaviyo's first month at $1 with the banner credit, then $20 a month); a buyer comparing year two sees $129.60 against $240.
Both vendors bill the list rather than the sending, but the units differ in ways that reach the invoice. Klaviyo's billable unit is the active profile, and its send allowance is set at ten emails per profile at every rung — a 10,000-rung account buys 100,000 emails a month whether or not it sends them. MailerLite's unit is the subscriber count taken across the billing cycle: any address that was active at any point in the cycle keeps counting toward the band even after it is deleted, until the billing anniversary resets the number. A store pruning dead contacts before a Klaviyo renewal and a newsletter operator trimming a MailerLite list before an anniversary are doing the same chore with different clocks — and both clocks favor checking the count before the billing date, not after.
MailerLite's Comfort bands — $12 at 500 subscribers through $89 at 10,000 and $129 at 15,000, with the yearly rates at every band — were read from its own pricing page on September 21, 2026, and the nightly re-check through October 3, 2026 found no changes. Klaviyo's Email-plan ladder — $20 at 500 active profiles, $60 at 2,500, $150 at 10,000, $175 at 10,500 — was read rung by rung from Klaviyo's own pricing engine on September 24, 2026, with the banner and add-on lines re-checked on October 1, 2026; where Klaviyo publishes nothing (an annual rate, at any size), this site prints the gap instead of estimating one, the same rule applied in our Klaviyo vs Mailchimp comparison. To price your own list size across every plan that publishes one, use the list-size cost calculator. Our methodology and affiliate disclosure explain how prices are verified and how the site earns.
MailerLite, by a wide margin on published prices. Its Comfort band at 10,000 subscribers bills $89 a month, or $80.10 a month on the yearly plan ($961.20 a year). Klaviyo's Email plan at 10,000 active profiles bills $150 a month, and no annual rate is published at any size, so the year is twelve monthly payments: $1,800. That is a $61 monthly gap and $838.80 over a year.
Yes — both free ceilings are 250 accounts (MailerLite counts subscribers, Klaviyo counts active profiles), which makes this the pairing where the free plans are most symmetric. What differs under the ceiling is the sending allowance and the trimmings: MailerLite's free plan covers 2,500 emails a month on two seats, while Klaviyo's covers 500 emails a month with a $5 SMS credit and support for the first 60 days.
The first paid steps are nearly identical. MailerLite's first band above the free plan covers 251 to 1,000 subscribers at $19 a month, or $17.10 on the yearly plan ($205.20 for the first year). Klaviyo's first rung covers 251 to 500 active profiles at $20 a month, $240 over twelve months because no annual rate exists. The gap at this size is $14.40 a year — the last time the two bills are close.
No annual rate is published at any list size, which makes Klaviyo the only vendor on this site with no annual option anywhere on its ladder. Any annual figure for Klaviyo is arithmetic — the monthly price times twelve, $1,800 at 10,000 active profiles — not a vendor quote. MailerLite publishes a yearly rate at every band, about 10% under twelve monthly payments.
They punish different sizes. MailerLite's steepest step is at the small end: subscriber 1,001 moves Comfort from $19 to $33 a month, up 74%, $168 more a year. Klaviyo's is in the middle: profile 10,501 starts a corridor where every 500 profiles cost $25 — the first step is $150 to $175, $300 more a year, and the corridor runs to 13,500 profiles, the most expensive marginal profiles on any ladder we have read.
The $61-a-month difference at 10,000 subscribers is the sticker price of Klaviyo's e-commerce focus, and whether the revenue tools justify it depends on store data this site does not test. What the published prices do establish is the shape of the bills: Klaviyo costs more at every verified size from 500 profiles upward, never discounts for a year-long commitment, and steps hardest between 10,500 and 13,500 profiles — while MailerLite undercuts it at every band, locks its 10% yearly rate until the term ends, and steps hardest at 1,001 subscribers.
